Well, what a wonderful Easter the Darlington Ordinariate group has had at St Osmund's. We had the reflective quiet beauty of Holy Week, with moving singing from Nicola Reeves and Gary Griffiths, ably accompanied by Simon Dearsley on the organ. Then we had the drama and passion of Good Friday, with Bairstow's 'Lamentations' a particular highlight. Holy Saturday was filled with light and joy and we in the choir felt especially joyful as we sang out Schubert's 'Mass in G' and the Hallelujah Chorus from 'The Messiah' (and the four psalms!). The parish party was enjoyed by everyone afterwards. On Easter Day itself, the church was full and there were plenty of youngsters ready to enjoy the Easter egg hunt after mass. The choir sang Haydn's 'St Nicolas Mass' - thanks again Nicola - and Barbara sang a very moving solo in our anthem, 'Blessed be the God and Father' by Samuel Wesley. We headed off for our Easter lunches with uplifted spirits and the sense of a job well done. Our visiting singers were really welcome and added to the splendour of our weekend with their wonderful voices; Simon's sensitive organ playing and Gary's empathetic conducting underpinned everything. If we felt rather tired after all our efforts, that was nothing to the effort Father Grieves put in. Many thanks to him for all his hard work; thanks too to our servers, sidesmen, readers, offertory bearers and the kitchen team. It's a team effort, but when you're doing it for the glory of God, it's no effort at all!
